TOP COP: “Everything that can be done, will be done, to keep you safe…”

Police Commissioner Gary Griffith has made yet another appeal for the justice system to ensure that gun-toting assassins stay behind bars.

Commissioner Griffith says they’ve succeeded in reducing every other serious crime, while homicides remain a sticking point.

The top cop says the courts continue to make it tougher for him and his team of police officers to keep the streets safe for ordinary citizens, by releasing known shooters and gunmen back into society, far too quickly.

The death threat made against At­tor­ney Gen­er­al Faris Al-Rawi came from some­one be­hind prison walls by a man al­ready fac­ing a mur­der charge on the high-pro­file mat­ter.

Guardian Me­dia was able to con­firm that the man’s fa­ther is al­so be­ing mon­i­tored by po­lice as he has been try­ing to meet with Al-Rawi to de­mand a speedy tri­al for his son.

Five prisoners test positive for tuberculosis

Five prisoners have tested positive for tuberculosis.

Four of the inmates were housed at the maximum-security prison and one at the remand facility.

According to a press release from the prisons service, the prisoners recently exhibited symptoms of tuberculosis and were examined.

After testing positive they were immediately taken to the Caura medical facility for treatment.

The areas where they were housed were sanitized and continuous testing and screenings are being conducted.

Man held in connection with aiding and abetting prison escapees

A man well known to police was arrested at his one Woodbrook place apartment last night for allegedly aiding and abetting the two escapees Olatunji Denbow and Michael Findlay who remain at large.

Investigators told Guardian Media the suspect who had a string of matters previously in court, including murder was held by a team of police officers from the Port of Spain task force under the supervision of inspector powder sometime last night.

He remains in police custody at the Besson Street police station.

Wrong prisoner identified as escapee

According to police reports, it was believed that an inmate identified as Kyle Belgrove escaped with the group of men, however, prison officials say he was reportedly found in another cell during a prisoners headcount.

The other escapee has been identified as Michael Findley.

Police say the 8 prisoners they are searching for are:  Kerry Valentino, Atiba Sealy, Joshua Janet, Olatunji Denbow,  Stefon Austin, Brent Johnson,  Michael Findley, and Mikhale Mohammed.
