Two held with 35 packets of marijuana

Two men have been arrested and 35 kilogrammes of marijuana have been seized by police, following an exercise in the Charlieville district.

Officers of the Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch, received information around 2.45 pm on Wednesday, that a silver Hyundai Tucson vehicle with two men were transporting narcotics along the Uriah Butler Highway.

Police say the officers then positioned themselves strategically and were able to intercept and conduct a search of the vehicle.

Mexican drug lord Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán found guilty

Mexican drug kingpin Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán has been found guilty on all 10 counts at his drug trafficking trial at a federal court in New York.

Guzmán, 61, has yet to be sentenced but the verdict could mean life in jail.

The Mexican was accused of being behind the all-powerful Sinaloa drug cartel, which prosecutors say was the biggest supplier of drugs to the US.

He was arrested in January 2016 after escaping from a Mexican prison through a tunnel five months earlier.

Tuesday's unanimous verdict by a jury in Brooklyn followed an 11-week trial.

Cocaine worth $9 Million found at Point Lisas Port

Police are on the hunt for an Arima Businessman, after 23 pounds of cocaine were seized at the Port of Point Lisas on Friday bound for St. Martin. Police say the illegal drug carries a street value of nine million TT dollars.
Reports say around midday, Customs Officers were scanning a container at the port when they picked up something suspicious. The container was taken to the examination station. There Custom Officers noticed what appeared to be cocaine hidden inside the container loaded with foodstuff.

New addictive drug hits schools

“Mol­ly” which is a new ad­dic­tive drug has hit the na­tion’s schools and of­fi­cials of the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion are cur­rent­ly “scram­bling” to get more on it and its ef­fects so that they can deal with the fright­en­ing is­sue.

The news of the drug was on­ly brought to the at­ten­tion of the min­istry’s man­ag­er of the Stu­dent Sup­port Ser­vices Di­vi­sion (SSSD), Pro­fes­sor Den­nis Con­rad yes­ter­day morn­ing. Con­rad said the drug seems to be so ef­fec­tive for the chil­dren that it seems to be the pre­ferred choice of a drug over “herb-like sub­stances.”

Truck driver to pay $12,000 for having ganja

A truck dri­ver has been or­dered to pay a $12,000 fine forth­with af­ter he ad­mit­ted to hav­ing 671 grammes of mar­i­jua­na in his pos­ses­sion.

Shiv­anand Sama­roo, 28, of Bayshore, Mara­bel­la, will be jailed for 24 months if he fails to pay the mon­ey im­me­di­ate­ly.

Sama­roo plead­ed guilty when he ap­peared be­fore San Fer­nan­do Se­nior Mag­is­trate Ali­cia Chankar in the First Court.

He was con­vict­ed for a sim­i­lar of­fence two years ago.

Police destroy more than $6.5 million in marijuana

Over $6.5 million worth in marijuana trees discovered in a camp in the Moruga district have been destroyed by officers of the South Western Division.

The exercise which was supervised by Sgt. Seepersad, took place on Tuesday.

The exercise included officers attached to the Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit.

During the exercise, officers proceeded into hilly area off La Lune Road, Moruga, where they discovered a camp containing 6500 fully grown marijuana trees, 2500 seedlings and seven pounds of cured marijuana.

Gun, drugs, ammo seized in police raid

Po­lice seized a pis­tol, a quan­ti­ty of am­mu­ni­tion and il­le­gal drugs dur­ing a raid in the La Hor­quet­ta dis­trict on Tues­day.

Ac­cord­ing to of­fi­cers, a 9mm Ital­ian-made pis­tol along with a mag­a­zine of 11 rounds of 9mm pis­tol, 50 rounds of 40 cal­i­bre hol­low point am­mu­ni­tion, 60 grammes of co­caine, 1,300 grammes of mar­i­jua­na and a bul­let-proof vest were found.

Of­fi­cers from La Hor­quet­ta CID, La Hor­quet­ta Crime Pa­trol, K9 Unit su­per­vised by In­sp Boodoo and Sgt Wal­dropt were in­volved in the ex­er­cise.

Labourer held with marijuana

A 34-year-old labourer of Palm Court Drive, Arima, was arrested and a quantity of marijuana seized by officers of the Pinto Police Post, during an anti-crime exercise in Pinto last night.

According to police reports, during the exercise, officers had cause to stop and search a red Nissan Latio motor vehicle with one male occupant along Train Line Road, Arima. 

The search resulted in three plastic packets containing 1.7 kilogrammes of marijuana and a quantity of cash being discovered inside a black shoebox.
