Bandit killed in foiled robbery

One bandit has been shot dead by police, while two others are in police custody, following an attempted robbery in Goodword Park, West Moorings.

According to a resident, at around 1 pm, three armed men broke into a home at Ascot Road.

The home belongs to relatives of former Petrotrin Chairman, and businessman, Lindsay Gillette.

Arriving at the scene, at 1:45 pm, Guardian Media was told by police that the scene was still active.

Lindsay Gillette was at the scene and confirmed that all his relatives were safe.

Young: Hackshaw didn’t order raid

The Po­lice Ser­vice says the search war­rant for the raid on the Ex­press’ of­fices on Wednes­day was not ob­tained on the in­struc­tions of the act­ing Po­lice Com­mis­sion­er, Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty Min­is­ter Stu­art Young said yes­ter­day.

Tunapuna man killed

Hours af­ter hear­ing the shots that end­ed her son’s life, a woman found her son’s life­less body mere me­tres from her home.

Vaun­dell Joseph, 28, was found dead in a drain which ran along a track which con­nect­ed his home to Up­per St Vin­cent Street, Tu­na­puna at around 6:15 am yes­ter­day.

The dis­cov­ery was made by his moth­er as she made her way through the path­way, and spot­ted her son, ly­ing face­down in a blood­ied vest.

Joseph was a handy­man, Guardian Me­dia was told.

Children's Authority asks police to investigate video of child clinging to driver's door

The adult who allowed a child to cling onto the driver's door of a moving vehicle has been reported to the police.

Video of the incident was captured by a stunned observer and circulated online last week.

The Children's Authority issued a statement today announcing that it asked the police to investigate.

The Authority said the reckless move could have brought harm or death to the child.

Under the Children's Act, it is an offence to expose a child to possible injury.

Four police officers arrested

Four officers of the Central Division have been arrested by officers of the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB), concerning investigations into reports of attempting to pervert the course of public justice.

The arrests were made around 4:00 am today, in the Central Division.

Among the officers arrested, are two Acting Inspectors of the Chaguanas Criminal Investigations Department, a Sergeant of Police attached to the Chaguanas Major Crime Section and a Police Constable attached to the Chaguanas Task Force.
